Life Lately and What I am Loving

Warning: This post is going to be all over the place! In an effort to make this post a bit more organized, I decided to go with a list of what I have been up to lately. Because who doesn’t love a good list?! (Or is that just me and my OCD tendencies?)

Bodeefit

1. Bodeefit Workout Emails. Even if I don’t do every single one of them, their daily appearance in my inbox reminds me that I need to get moving and they inspire me to create my own little mini workouts. A must to break up the winter blahs and get the endorphins flowing! Plus, I love that the workouts are super quick and require little to no equipment!

Perfection!

Perfection!

2. Paleo Banana Bread. This paleo banana bread to be exact. I don’t think that I need to explain-what’s not to love about warm, dense, slightly sweet bread?! The recipe is super easy and I have now made it 3 times! Plus, unlike other Paleo breads that I have tried, the bread rises to the top of my loaf pan! George of Civilized Caveman Cooking Creations also has a Paleo ebook, and it is on sale! Definitely check it out!

3. Draw Something. I may be a little late to the party on this one, but I recently started playing this game and I love it! I find it incredibly amusing to watch my brother try to solve my drawings…like the time he had to guess ‘vegan’ and I redid my drawing at least 5 times! Whoops!

Winning artwork no?!

Winning artwork no?!

4. Challenge Loop. Accomplish goals and be entered to win fitness related food and goodies?! Yes please! I downloaded this app so that I could be a part of the 28 Day Blog Challenge. More on this later!

5. I signed up for my first half marathon! The Wineglass Marathon is a local marathon that I have always been intrigued by, but never thought I’d actually be participating in it! The race doesn’t take place until the Fall, so I have plenty of time for training and will probably be fitting in at least one other half marathon as a ‘practice’ run.

So, my list turned into a bit of link love. I have been fairly busy lately with work and practice, plus fitting in all of the daily to-dos. I have been brainstorming with goals for myself and the blog, so there is more to come!

What have you been loving lately?

Waiting on My Running Mojo

My running energy has recently taken a huge nosedive. No matter the situation: early morning, late afternoon, short run, long run, solitary, or meeting up with a friend-I’ve lost all desire to run! After my trail run in October my body needed some serious rest and recovery, so I took a week off from running and lifting. It was a much needed break for my body and mind! I focused on restoring and repairing my body with nutritious foods, lots of rest, and a few long walks. I kept waiting for the urge to run to return…and it seems I’m still waiting.

Sunshine in New York!

The cold weather here in New York combined with the lack of sunshine (until this weekend!) definitely hasn’t helped my running mojo. I tend to be cold from October to May (and I wish I were exaggerating!). So the cooler temperatures are less than inspiring. In the past, my running fever has started up in the spring and carried me through the summer, cooling off once the fall and winter temperatures set in. I tend to only run outside-I don’t love the treadmill! However, this is the first year that I’ve gotten fairly serious about running and have begun to enjoy it for the sake of running rather than as a means of exercise. Did someone say long run endorphin rush? This means that long runs, the technicalities of running gear, and post run nutrition have become part of my vernacular! I don’t want to lose my running muscles, so I now have a goal to continue with my running though the winter. No biggie right?! Now if only I could find some my running mojo!

My goal is to run at least twice a week. And in the past few weeks I have accomplished that. They weren’t stellar runs, and nothing longer than 4 miles, but I was out there and moving! I did recently purchase some awesome new running gear thanks to discount deals at TJ Maxx: lined base layers and a sweet new orange sweatshirt. That may mean that I now have approximately 4 running shirts that are orange… Apparently that is my running color!

New Warm Running Gear = Amazing Running?!

I ran the other day with a friend and was reminded of how good it felt to be out and moving. It took a bit to get into my groove, but by mile 3 I was feeling good! Thank you endorphin rush! Discussing our upcoming Thanksgiving dessert plans also helped!

Today I have plans to head to the track and complete a ladder workout: (and soak up some vitamin D!)

Track Ladder Workout:

  • 4 Laps (1 mile)
  • 10 Burpees, 20 Push ups, 20 Lunges
  • 3 Laps
  • 10 Burpees, 20 Push Ups, 20 Squats
  • 2 Laps
  • 10 Burpees, 20 Push Ups, 20 Lunges
  • 1 Lap (Sprinting!)
  • 10 Burpees, 20 Push Ups, 20 Squats

Hopefully my happy running face will be returning soon!

What do you do when your running/lifting/other exercise you love motivation is lacking?

Have any tips for cold weather running? (I need them!)

Mama is Always Right [And other Life Tips]: How to Rock Any Workout

Exercise is a must have in my life. It improves and supports my mood, energy, confidence, and physical health. And I fully believe that everyone should engage in some type of physical activity-even if it is as simple as taking a walk after dinner. The endorphin rush that I get after a workout, whether lifting weights, running, or hiking is amazing. Any negative energy that I may have had has disappeared and I feel as if I can take on and conquer the world. Who wouldn’t love that feeling?

However, I am not always jumping for joy before my workout. Everyone has low energy, lazy, days. Ironically, those are the days when a workout is the most beneficial-for both the body and mind! So, what do I do when I am looking for some workout motivation and energy?

My Mama’s famous last words: “Go turn some music on and start dancing and you will feel so much better.”

Top Three Tips for Workouts

1. Find a friend. Whether it be your mom (as in my case) or a friend, find someone who will encourage and inspire you to get moving. Bonus points if you can find someone who will join you! A workout buddy is an awesome motivator.

2. Be Stylin’! Wear clothes that make you feel strong, sexy, and are suitable for your activity. Lifting weights? Slim fitting, flattering clothes will allow you to move through your work out easily and show off those muscles! Going for a run? Moisture wicking, light clothing is a must. Be sure that there are no rough seems or fabrics that will cause chafing. Spandex and polyester are your best friends in this zone! Downward dog time? Leggings and slim fitting tops that have higher necklines will help you hit every pose and keep you covered.

3. Set the Tunes! Unless you prefer your workout sans music, getting the right tunes flowing will definitely help pump up your energy levels. This can make or break my workouts. For lifting I love anything from rock ‘make you feel tough’ to pop ‘make you want to dance’ music.

What are you waiting for?! Go get your workout on!
