Liebster Bog Award

The wonderful Molly from Just Your Average Athlete nominated me for the Liebster Blog Award. I let out a squeal of excitement when I finally noticed that I was one of the eleven bloggers that she had chosen to nominate! And now I am finally getting the time to write out the post!

The Liebster Blog Award is for newbie bloggers who are getting started. Liebster is a German word for ‘favorite’ or ‘dearest.’ So yay! Thank you Molly!

My 11 Random Facts:

1. My family picks on me due to the amount of vegetables I consume. Especially those of the squash variety. My Dad swears that my skin has taken on an orange tint. Oops…

2. I am insanely close to my family. My Mom and I exchange approximately 56478 texts a day.

3. I have trouble saying no. This can be a good quality at times. It’s how I ended up participating in an 8 mile obstacle course trail run. And now I can’t wait for the running season to begin again! It’s also how I managed to become an assistant basketball coach. Did I mention I’ve never played basketball before?

4. I think blind dates are hysterical. Even though there have been some awkward ones-I love having a story to tell!

5. My food obsessions change according to the season. In the fall I want everything pumpkin. For Christmas I wanted everything peppermint. Including marshmallows.

6. My cupboards are dedicated to coconut. Shredded coconut, coconut flakes, coconut oil, coconut aminos, coconut flour, and let’s not forget the 3 jars of Nikki’s coconut butter.

7. I have my Master’s degree in Literacy and am a certified teacher, but thanks to the politics of New York State, I am in my second year of substituting for local school districts. Frustrating much?

8. I love each and every holiday. I started talking about Valentine’s Day the other day. Whoa! I am not the only one though-my grocery store had their candy display set up already! All I want are some cute heart decorations!

9. I have a habit of asking people what their favorite food, movie, book, song, restaurant, etc is… I try to only practice this annoying habit on my family members, but it can be a great trick for those times when you have no idea what to talk about! Ironically, I have a hard time picking my favorite things…

11. I never thought I would be a teacher when I was younger. My dream occupations ranged from a neonatal nurse to a veterinarian to a civil engineer, and then finally an elementary teacher!

Molly’s Questions:

1. If you could have any super power, what would it be?
The ability to have everyone experience the endorphin rush of a good run, workout, walk, hike etc. I think our world would be a much happier place if movement was mandatory!

2. What is the strangest talent you have?
Is writing thank you notes a talent? I always write thank you notes after receiving a gift. It is something that my Mom made me do when I was little, and now I have to do it-it feels wrong not to!

3. What is your dream vacation?
Any place warm and under populated! My family has been going to Maine for a summer vacation since I was in elementary school, so I am partial to Maine. But I would also like to visit a white sandy beach some day! Hawaii is my daydream when I am stressing!

4. What is the worst injury you’ve ever had?
Does having my wisdom teeth taken out count? Thankfully I have never had any serious injury. One of my greatest fears is not being able to run, lift, etc. due to an injury! Three days of being a couch potato and eating nothing but liquids was enough for me!

5. What do you hope to be doing 5 years from now?
In five years I will be almost thirty. Yikes. I would like to have a career. Either teaching or in some type of fitness related field as a personal trainer etc. Or doing both! Unfortunately, due to New York State’s finances, my teaching career hasn’t taken off the way I had planned. So I have been doing a lot of substitute teaching. Although I keep telling myself that it will all work out in the end, it is a bit frustrating at times. I also really want to be more involved with fitness and society. It is my passion!

6. Who taught you to drive?
My Mom was the first to take me to a parking lot where I drove around in circles. I figured out pretty quickly though that my Dad was a better passenger.  (Sorry Mama!) My Mom made me nervous! So after the initial first driving experience, my Dad took me out on many parallel parking adventures. I am sure my Mom was secretly relieved! Ick. So stressful!

7. What is your favorite genre of music?
Hmm…I listen to country a lot, but also like pop, dance, type music that is popular now. Rock and classical rock are also frequent flyers. I told you I have trouble making decisions! Anything that makes me want to dance is good! And currently my Pandora has been stuck on Christmas tunes-’tis the season!

8. What are you most afraid of?
Moths. Completely irrational I know. Absolutely terrified? Yes. Let’s not talk about it.

9. Do you speak any other languages besides English?
Nope. However, I did take three years of American Sign Language, so I know a tiny bit of sign. Not enough to be even slightly proficient though. I took Latin in high school when I thought that I wanted to be a veterinarian. I now wish that I had taken Spanish-it would have been much more useful!

10. Are you lefty or a righty?
Righty!

11. If you could have one last meal, what would it be?
Ugh! This is a tough one! I love food. I really love the food that my Mom makes-a little cliche perhaps? I love grilled chicken/steak and veggies on the grill during the summer. Add some sweet potato fries with ketchup (because I eat fries for the ketchup) and corn on the cob and we are set! End with dutch apple pie topped with ice cream and I would say that it would be a pretty perfect meal!

Up Close and Personal

Hello! I borrowed this survey from Emily, who borrowed it from Aubrey, who I believe is the creator of the most recent survey going around in the blog world. This survey is more unique than the other surveys because the questions are deeper than the usual what’s your favorite way to eat sweet potatoes/granola/Chobani etc…. And what better way to share my true personality than an up close and personal question and answer session? Refill your coffee mug and get comfy, this may take awhile!

10 Questions About My Personality

1. When a cashier in the checkout line at the grocery store is being a grump for no reason, how do you typically react?

Often, cashiers don’t say anything to me before they start checking me out. I have always blamed it on that I look young so they think that it doesn’t matter. However, who doesn’t appreciate being acknowledge? If a cashier doesn’t say anything, how are you today? Etc., I say it to them first instead. Lots of times they seem surprised when this happens. I work as a waitress, so I understand that sometimes people just aren’t feeling the most social. I feel like it puts a positive spin on a sometimes awkward situation.

2. Are you the type that likes going out with your girlfriends or staying in?

I think I like the idea of going out dancing etc., but the whole up late and feeling crappy the next day usually hold me back from following through with it. Plus, I have never been into that ‘scene.’ I’d much rather stay in with a bunch of people-much more relaxing and no worries about getting home.

3. Do you sob and get emotional watching romance movies?

Kristen Bell once explained her emotions as a scale of 1-10. If she is between a 5 and a 7 she’s great, but anything above or below means she’s crying. This totally fits me. Too happy, too sad, the waterworks begin (although I have to say its more tears running down my face rather than full out sobbing)! I handle my emotions better on some days than others, but I definitely working this aspect of myself!

FYI: Kristen explains emotions. I find this video hysterical…mostly because it’s the story of my life.

4. What stresses you out the most?

Not knowing what is going to happen. Whether its today, next week, or next year, I need to know who, what, when, and why. I am working on being more spontaneous, but I have noticed that the more stress factors that have in my life, the less likely I am able to just go with the flow. Type A much??

5. What do you think people think of you?

People most likely think that I am a nice, quiet, do gooder. Ugh. The people who actually know me know that I do like to talk and can be very goofy (is there a better word for this?). People have a tendency to think I am in a bad mood, but that’s because I don’t walk around with a huge grin on my face for nothing. I also tend to show my emotions on my face without realizing it-not always a good thing!

6. When you overindulge do you hit the gym to burn it all off, or just accept the indulgence and follow your same routine?

I might go for an extra walk/run, but usually I just accept the indulgence and plan on using it as extra energy for an awesome workout! Life is all about moderation!

7. Are you easily annoyed?

Normally, I would say no. I try not to let little things bother me and on my best days I can usually laugh annoyances off easily. Except for in the morning. I don’t like to talk to anyone in the morning. I like my quiet time then.

8. What do you think is your biggest personality flaw?

I can be a control freak. There I said it. For as long as I can remember, I have always needed to have some sense of control over whatever situation I am in. As the older sibling, I was constantly bossing my brother around when we were little. I cringe at these memories. And feel guilty. There’s another flaw-guilt! This mostly comes from wanting everything to be perfect. My school and college experiences were very stressful because of this ‘perfectionism’ trait. Some people talk about wanting to go back, but ohmygosh no thank you!! The whole completing work and people grading it with little to no feedback or guidance is just way too much for me. I was a very successful student, but I definitely stressed myself out to the extreme.

9. What is one thing you don’t think people see enough of when it comes to your personality?

I love to talk to people and make crazy jokes….but I find it hard to share this side of myself with people. Especially if they have already made the assumption that I am quiet. Hatethatword.

10. Can you feel relaxed in a busy crowd or messy room?

I definitely don’t like busy crowds. I am very aware of my personal space, and I get anxious/uncomfortable when people ignore this! Messy rooms don’t bother me as much-they have more of an effect when I am stressed.

What I learned from this: stress is not good for me! It seems to bring out all of the negative emotions and responses.
